Esfahan rugs are known worldwide for their fine quality and intricate curvilinear designs inspired by the mosaic dome ceilings of major mosques and monuments of 16th and 17th century Esfahan. The central medallion design is seen most, but all-over designs and pictoral designs are not uncommon.
